Videos can be a fantastic sales tool for your business, and this article has some useful tips on video marketing and copywriting.
So, why videos? It’s because they’re so flexible. They can sell, explain, engage and inspire. They can bring many more people to your website, get them to stay there, and convert them into customers. And because videos encourage visitors to spend more time on a page, they’re also great for SEO.
They’re also flexible when it comes to formats. They can be straightforward unedited footage, explainers using AI or simple graphics, or more complex sales or marketing tools.
If you’re a start-up or self-employed professional, don’t be afraid to do a simple piece to camera. Smartphones are plenty good enough in technical terms, and what you gain in trust will outweigh any lack of polish in your presentation.
What are the different ways you can use videos in your marketing?
With today’s technology it’s easy to make effective low-cost videos and you can use them for all kinds of purposes:
- An introduction to you and your business
- Showcases for key individual products or services
- Event videos – introductions, teasers or reports for internal or external events
- TV-style adverts to promote your brand or launch a campaign
- ‘How to’ explainers for processes or complex offerings
- Interviews – with stakeholders, employees, customers or influencers
- Case studies, testimonials and reviews
- Blog posts – personal opinions, new releases, industry news and more
Property marketing videos
With property, you’re frequently selling the dream, and development showcase videos are almost mandatory these days – you can see examples of ones I’ve written on my property copywriting page.
But videos have other applications when it comes to property marketing. PropTech for example – a simple way of explaining a complicated product and revealing its benefits. Or, as with the video shown here, a more subtle way of selling the property dream, via an inspirational video from an architect.
Financial marketing videos
Financial products are often complex, and the way they work and benefits they offer can often be best explained visually. I’ve written many product and service explainers for Vanguard similar to the one shown above.
Videos are also great for financial brand building – you can see some examples I wrote for Vanguard and Janus Henderson on my financial copywriting page
Tech marketing videos
Videos are a godsend when it comes to explaining technical products, and for the most part simple graphics can do the job perfectly. The example shown here is one several I wrote for Kiliaro.
Other applications for tech marketing videos are similar to other sectors, including brand building and case studies – there are examples of those on my tech copywriting page
Why would you need a video copywriter?
As someone who has written a lot of video scripts it pains me to say it, but a lot of the time you don’t need a professional copywriter to write your video. If it’s just a one-off introduction to your company, then you can generally write it – and present it – yourself.
But there are times when using a professional video copywriter makes sense. if you’re looking to do some serious brand building and create engaging, memorable scripts, for example. Or perhaps you’re struggling to showcase the features and benefits of a complex product or service, and to stick to an authentic brand voice. A good writer will also be able to advise on production, voiceovers and everything else necessary to create successful videos.
