Levers to meet our interim targets and net-zero ambition
To mitigate 52 MMtCO2e from our business-as-usual forecast emissions by 2035, we are focusing on five key levers:
These levers are continuously monitored and reviewed to track progress and match expectations and leverage new opportunities such as technological innovations and evolving regulatory standards.
Carbon capture and storage (CCS)
Aramco has established a CCS joint venture with our partners SLB and Linde near the Jubail Industrial Area. The development of facilities is progressing, with major contracts awarded and detailed engineering work underway. The venture represents one of the largest CCS hubs in the world. The first phase of construction is expected to be completed in 2028 with a capacity to capture and store up to 9 MMTPA of CO2 per year.
As part of the Kingdom-wide CCS evaluation program, we successfully identified game-changing prolific saline aquifers that are globally unmatched in terms of capacity and development cost. This paves the way for the company – and indeed Saudi Arabia as a whole – to progress to net-zero.
