Improve your Google results - how search engines rank websites
There are lots of little things which can help improve Google results. But nowadays most people agree the search engines have two main criteria for ranking websites: content and links.
Here's what Google themselves say about content:
'Create a useful, information-rich site, and write pages that clearly and accurately describe your content. Think about the words users would type to find your pages, and make sure that your site actually includes those words within it.'

In other words, having the right words in the right places the right number of times really matters if you're looking to improve Google results. But you'd be amazed at how often this is overlooked - even by some web design companies.
Fortunately, the situation is changing. A recent TopRank Poll of SEO specialists asked 'What type of SEO skill is most important?' SEO Copywriting came out top - polling twice as many votes as the next answer, keyword analysis (which is actually an essential part of SEO copywriting anyway).
Link building, incidentally, was way down the list. Formal link building campaigns are also expensive and time-consuming - not worthwhile unless you're in a highly competitive field such as insurance or travel, where SEO copywriting may not be enough.

Pyrenean Mountain Tours - since I rewrote their main web pages, they've achieved first page ranking for many new keywords - and much higher traffic.
