Writing cheap articles
From time to time, I get asked to quote on writing a series of articles for websites. And my heart sinks…because I know that almost invariably, the enquirer will end up going to elance or one of the other sources of cheap articles.
Yes, there are people out there who will write an article for you for £15, £10, £5...sometimes even £1. How can they afford to do it? How good can these writers be? More importantly, how good are the articles going to be?
Here, however, is an article that definitely is worth reading:

It's by a fellow copywriter, and it shows how these scams work - and how anyone putting cheap articles on their website could end up paying very dearly for them.
Website copywriter - editing your website
Here's a post from a fellow copywriter, Kate Naylor, about the importance of regularly updating and reviewing your website:

There's lots of good stuff about keeping the text fresh, adding an offer and encouraging feedback.
Kate does also suggest adding an image of yourself if you're a freelance copywriter like her. Or me.
Hmmm. Well, I can see why people would want to look at Kate - though the picture is heavily pixellated. Not sure why they would want a pic of me though.
A couple of article sites have wanted pictures of their authors, and I have obliged. Though not with great pictures.
But maybe I should risk frightening the horses and get a decent pic of me and put it up.
Until then, you can actually find an image of me on this site. It's on this page: My Direct Mail nad Brochure Samples
It's the Vodafone brochure, with all the different people. I was intending, as the writer of the piece, to write myself a nice positive role. But in the event, the shot which was used, which was the best overall, had me scowling rather miserably. Hence the caption 'I'm as sick as a parrot.'
Next time, if there is one, I promise to try and look more 'over the moon.'
